1. Legal literacy program: Bangladesh National Woman Lawyers' Association organizes Legal Literacy Classes for disadvantaged women at the grassroots level. Usually Field Trainers of partner organizations conduct these programs. Each class contains 20-25 males or females of the respective community selected from different Groups like Micro Credit or any other that exists in the locality. The Legal Literacy classes are organized in two parts.  Each part is comprised of twelve days. (one and half hours each day). The knowledge that the learners attained from the training is praise worthy.

2. Legal literacy refreshers class: As one legal literacy course is not adequate to recall and retention of information on laws/legal issues BNWLA has introduced refreshers session of six days (one and half hours daily) for the disadvantaged group. In this training the staff of BNWLA can share the problem that they are facing in implementing the learning of the training and thereby try to enact the solution.

3. Violence Prevention Village Committee. (VPVC): To make the committee's role more dynamic the structure and title of present Legal Awareness Education Implementation Committee (LAEIC) has been changed. The name of the new committee is Violence Prevention Village Committee (VPVC). The goal of this committee is to establish a violence free village through preventing any sorts of violence against women and children. The committee has three objectives. Firstly, make people respectful to abide by the law through dissemination of information of law. Secondly, prevent violation of rights at the initial stage. Thirdly, to conduct rescue, provide medical treatment and take primary initiatives of legal support of victim if any violence takes place. The committee is comprised 11 members among of them one chairperson, one co- chairperson, one secretary, one cashier, three members (male) and four members (female).

4. Raising awareness through drama demonstration: One unique innovation of BNWLA is legal awareness through theatre demonstration. The partner organization primarily does this. The organization usually forms a group of drama workers comprising of 20 members of the interested beneficiaries and staffs whom BNWLA provide training on skills in organizing theatre demonstration. The main objective is to make people aware and sensitized about human rights and legal issues by giving them some clear messages through the drama. The main messages are usually about

  • Child marriage;
  • Polygamy and related religious injunction;
  • Second marriage without the consent of 'shalishi parishad' unlawful and punishable offence;
  • The consequences of polygamy, dowry and their harmful effects;
  • Awareness about ' 18 no. Column' of the marriage registration form;

  • Wife's rights to dower;
  • Punishment of acid throwing and what we have to do against after acid attack.

Shalish training to local shalishdar (LEB,VPVC etc.): Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association over the last few years has experienced that the representatives of Local Elected Bodies, the Civil Society and Community Leaders usually play the vital role in conducting Shalish or in resolving the disputes among the members of the community. With a view to increasing their role in conducting modern, lawful, participatory and women friendly shalish a three days long training has been imparted to them. The partner organizations organize the training and BNWLA conducts it.
