Shohor Ali’s son, a camel jockey

Sohel (8) is the son of Shohor Ali who was born in the Gopchar village of Narayanganj. The complainant, Shohor Ali is a very poor day laborer and lives as a tenant in the Shahid Nagar area. There he became acquainted with the cunning Sonai Bibi of the neighboring house. Since their acquaintance, at different times Sonai Bibi tempted Shohor Ali by saying that she will give his first wife’s son Sohel a very good job. Shohor Ali naively agrees to Sonai Bibi’s proposal and on the 15th Ramadan day on 25/1/1997, Sonai Bibi took Sohel to Dhaka at her relative Fayez Patowar’s house. Eventually Shohor Ali heard that his son Sohel was trafficked by Sonai Bibi to her children in Dubai through her above mentioned relative Fayez Patowari.      Shohor Ali then lodged ejahar against Sonai Bibi at the police station to rescue his son, the police arrested Sonai Bibi. It must be mentioned that Sonai Bibi, through her relative Fayez Patowari, has trafficked 1) Alam 2) Mannan 3) Monir Hossein 4) Babu Hossein 5) Jewel 6) Titu 7) Sagar 8) Maizuddin and 9) Shumon of the Shahid Nagar village in a similar manner to her children in Dubai. From amongst them, Titu, Sagar and Shumon came back to the country and informed everyone that they had met Sohel there, working with them as a camel jockey.       Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association provided legal support to the complainant. After considering all the evidence, on 08/09/2009, the Honorable Court gave a judgment against the opposite party and sentenced the accused to suffer life imprisonment.
